The Institute of Economics and Finance was founded in 1931 on the base of the Faculty of Economics which had previously belonged to the Kazan State University named after Vladimir Lenin.

The Institute of Economics and Finance is one of the leading state economic higher educational institutions in the Russian Federation. Along with the training of world standard specialists it is also a centre of economic study. It is constantly involved in solving vital matters in both economic and financial spheres of our country’s life.

In 1992 The Institute of Economics and Finance was among the first ones in Russia to switch to a multi-level system of higher education in Management and Economics majors with providing a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree.

The Institute offers the following programs of higher professional education: Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree, Postgraduate Education as well as the faculties of secondary higher education in such fields as Management of Enterprise, Finance and Credits, Accounting and Audit.

In 2002 the Institute started to train high qualification managers within the MBA program. Counterparts form France and St. Petersburg take part in the realization of this program. The Diploma of a Generalist Manager meets the main principles of the European MBA standard.

The Institute carries out scientific research in fundamental branches of market economy. The research work meets all the requirements and is applied in the economy, everyday life and teaching process. A big number of monographs, scientific works, and practice manuals have been published by professors of all departments.

The Institute has close connections with Russia’s leading higher educational institutions such as Moscow Finance Academy under the Government of the Russian Federation, Russian Economics Academy named after Plekhanov, St. Petersburg Finance and Economics University. The Institute also works in cooperation with such foreign higher educational institutions as the Paris-Dauphine University (France), the State University of New York (USA), ESIDEC (France).

Essential conditions have been created at the Institute to facilitate teaching process. The Institute possesses well-equipped study-rooms as well as computer rooms and a rich library. Moreover The Institute of Economics and Finance is proud to have a history museum which was founded in 1997. The museum exhibitions comprise a great variety of original documents, photographs, books, gifts, copies of documents from the national archives of the Republic of Tatarstan. The Institute possesses its own printing facilities where monographs, manuals and other works done by professors along with The Economist newspaper are published.
